Movie Mania

This weeks movie: DVD Report
This weeks review by: Stephanie

Well, I haven't been able to get out and see any new movies lately. There are several on my list, but maybe next weekend. Seems like I am busy doing everyone's homework. Anyway, I have just gone crazy at the previewed movies available at the local video rental places. Ten dollars for some great movies is just too good to pass up. I am just aglow with pride as I watch my DVD collection grow.

My favorite selections are definitely the ones that I can watch with the kids (and not have to watch cartoons!). My vote for the best DVD family movie this week would have to be The Rookie. I am also the proud owner of The Count of Monte Cristo (one day I am going to read the book!) and Oceans Eleven which is really good too. I have to admit I felt like a kid in a candy store and spent most of my time trying to put some of the ones I had collected back (for the sake of financial freedom!).

I really enjoyed the new person at the video store who was willing and able to answer my main question that determines whether I purchase one video over another...."Does the good guy die in the end?" Finally a clerk above the age of 12 who knew a thing or two about movies! What a novel idea for a video rental store. So after over-hearing several conversations, I had to wander over with my "big ears" to hear the end of a discussion about I Am Sam. Bought it, haven't watched it yet, but the "critics" (local people at the video store) rave.

What's your favorite movie, and why?

Clear Lake Taste Buds

This months restaurant: Texas Roadhouse
Review by: Keith

The Texas Roadhouse chain has 125 locations in 28 states but it feels like a family operation. There were some good signs before I stepped in the door. The parking lot was full and there was a pretty long line. If a restaurant isn't’t crowded on Friday or Saturday night in Clear Lake, something's wrong. Bay Area Restaurant goers are a discriminating bunch!

Inside, the staff was friendly and the line moved quickly. They offer whole roasted peanuts to keep you busy while you wait. (just throw the shells on the floor) After being seated, and scanning the menu, I found the prices to be very reasonable. I started off with the best Caesar salad I have had in a long time. If anyone can find a better salad than this please let me know!

Next, I had to try the Cactus Blossom (fried onion), which was very tasty.  The main course was the Dallas Filet, an 8-ounce filet Minot, which are hand cut, specially aged grain fed beef.  This was an excellent steak equal to the best in the Clear Lake Area. I highly recommend The Texas Road House for your dining pleasure.  Recommend getting there early or expect a wait.

The Texas Roadhouse is located at 18194 Gulf Freeway in Friendswood. Phone: 281-461-3800

NEW! Introduction to Todd G.'s MP3 Reviews:
MP3 Review: Red Delicious

"I love surfing for undiscovered artist on free sites like MP3.com so I end-up downloading tons of unsigned artist to check out. Occasionally I find some real gems that I feel worthy of promoting. As much as I try to encourage friends to forget file swapping and try things they won't hear on the radio, most don't want to bother as much as I do because they have to really search to find the good stuff."
